Special Education Needs

We give all of our students the support they need to succeed.

All staff use their best endeavours to ensure students with SEND receive the support they require and engage in activities alongside pupils who do not have SEND. Our aim is to ensure high quality teaching is delivered which is well matched to students’ needs and abilities.

If there are concerns over a students progress we follow the assess – plan – do – review cycle using the graduated approach to provide the required support.

Dash, The Miniature Dachshund

Dash is at the Academy two days a week. He spends time with a small group of students based in AG.

This will be an opportunity for pupils to: 

  • Increase their confidence and support their wellbeing

  • Improve their mood and engagement

  • Increase their desire to read and write when working in Dash’s presence

  • Improve their ability to self regulate around Dash

  • Learn about positive and negative cues, social cues and boundaries
