Our Curriculum Offer

At Co-op Academy Leeds we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which:

  • Promotes a love of learning, and a wide range of knowledge and interests. We want students to enjoy coming to school and engage fully in Academy life as a result of the curriculum on offer.
  • Prepares students to be responsible members of the local and wider community.
  • Gives every student the opportunity to achieve a wide range of qualifications, to the highest possible standard, from their starting points.
  • Prepares students for the next stage in their career, whether that be employment, an apprenticeship or further studies
  • Is flexible so that students can change pathways depending on their progress, emerging needs and interests.
  • Is tailored to the wide range of needs of the students in our Academy

Key Stage 3

Year 7 & 8

Students in years 7 & 8 will follow a wide range of subjects:

–          Maths

–          English

–          Science

–          Geography

–          History

–          ICT

–          PE

–          MFL (French, Spanish and Urdu)

–          Art

–          Drama

–          Design and Technology

–          Dance (proposed)

Year 7 and Year 8 top set (Inspire) follow an alternative curriculum, which also includes:

–          Triple Science

–          Statistics

–          Mandarin

–          Debating

Year 9
Students in Year 9 will start to specialise in some subject areas. It is hoped that they will continue to study these in to Year 10 and 11, but it is not essential.All students will study:

–          Maths,

–          English

–          Science

–          Languages

–          History

–          Geography

–          Core PE

–          Religious Education

–          PSHE

They will be given the option of studying 2 of the following subjects.

–          Computer Science

–          Design and Technology

–          Food

–          Business Studies

–          Art

–          Dance (new for 2018/19) – proposed

–          Drama

–          Music

–          Health & Social Care

–          BTEC PE

 

Key Stage 4

Year 10 & 11

In Years 10 & 11 all students will study the following courses:

–          Maths

–          English

–          Science

–          Core PE

–          PSHE

They will have the option to study 4 of the following:

–          BTEC PE

–          GCSE Geography

–          GCSE History

–          GCSE Computer Science

–          GCSE Business Studies

–          GCSE Health & Social Care

–          GCSE Triple Science

–          GCSE Languages

–          GCSE Drama

–          GCSE Dance (proposed for Y10)

–          RSL Music (GCSE equivalent)

–          GCSE Food

–          GCSE Product Design (which incorporates Resistant Materials, Graphic Products and Textiles)

–          GCSE English as an Additional Language

–          College courses in Hair & Beauty and Motor Vehicle Maintenance (Level 1 – outsourced placements)

Next academic year we will also be offering Level 1 courses for KS4 students. These are student who will not be able to gain a qualification at GCSE and will aim to progress to Level 2 qualifications at 6th form or college. The students following these courses are mainly new to English students or those with complex special educational needs.
