We were visited by the Stephen Lawrence Trust

The Stephen Lawrence Trust visited us to talk to our students about their work in the Stephen Lawrence Committee. The Stephen Lawrence Committee promote equality within the academy and are driven by Stephen’s story.

Stephen’s brother Stuart found out about our Committee when he was searching Twitter. It was the first time he had seen students organise something like this in Stephen’s memory.

He reached out to us to come see what it’s all about and brought his colleagues Dr Judy Larsen and Richard Tavernier. They talked to our students about the work they do and had a tour of the academy.

Our students gave a presentation about the work they do and why, it was based on the talk they give to new students at the academy about Stephen’s story.

Stuart talked about his role in the Stephen Lawrence Trust and the work they do helping young people transform their lives.

Stuart answered questions from students about how the tragedy affected his life, his biggest achievements and his favourite football team.

The visit was a great experience for the students and the start of a working relationship with the Stephen Lawrence Trust. We’re looking forward to a bright future together and ‘living our best life’.
