We held our first inter-school poetry competition!

As part of our work with local primary schools, our Year 7s organised our first ever poetry competition. They invited pupils from Bankside, Hovingham and Nightingale to learn their favourite poems and come and perform them here.

It was fantastic to see the students remembering their poems and performing them so confidently. Some even included some clever choreography!

The poems that were performed included ‘The Boneyard Rap’ by Wes Magee, Macbeth’s ‘Witches Spell’ and ‘Untitled’ by Unknown.

We were blown away by how well all the students did and it was a tough decision for the who had won. After much deliberation, the judges awarded Saadia, Sedona, Melissa, Ibraheem, Salma and Lawnd from Hovingham Primary first place. Our very own Inaam came second, with Bankside Primary’s Laiba and Husna coming third.

Our first poetry competition was a great success and we are still impressed by how brilliantly the pupils performed.
