Celebrating International Women’s Day 2018

This year, for the second time, our students were invited to Northern Powerhouse Briefings and Inclusive Employers International Women’s Day celebration at Park Plaza in Leeds. Mr Mitchell was also asked to give a welcome speech to the attendees.

We took 10 students, both boys and girls, along to explore what International Women’s Day means in 2018. They heard from industry leaders, authors, activists and a former ‘Apprentice’ contestant about their journeys and experiences.

Again we were the only school invited to the event, but that didn’t stop our students from taking hold of the microphone and asking mature and well-thought out questions. One speaker, Heather Melville OBE, the Director for Strategic Partnerships and Head of Business Inclusion Initiatives of Royal Bank of Scotland, said that us being there had inspired her to make sure any events she organised now included a local school.

It was a great day that really got the students thinking about what they can do to be more inclusive. Thank you to Northern Power House Briefings and Inclusive Employers for inviting us again, we can’t wait for next year!
